Enter the magical world of cross-country skiing, mountain skiing, snowboarding and husky riding; or snuggle up and while-away your afternoons sitting by a cosy fireplace, drinking hot chocolate topped with gooey marshmallows.
Although the ski season can be quite short, it is certainly a lot of fun. You could learn to ski on the slopes of Whistler, practise your snowboarding in the shadow of Mont Blanc in the Alps or enjoy the après-ski scene after cruising down the Matterhorn in Zermatt.
However, if skiing and extreme sports aren’t your thing, there's plenty more you can do in the snow. Why not go to Iceland for the winter solstice? Pack those thermals and road-trip through the Golden Circle, where you must stop at the Blue Lagoon and spend some time spotting the incredible Northern Lights. For something totally out of the ordinary, you could watch the Ice-cricket or Snow Polo on the frozen lake in St. Moritz.
Sweden and Finland provide the perfect opportunity for Ice Hotels, the infamous Lapland, with Santa’s grotto, or visiting Reindeer farms whilst staying in igloos where you can star gaze from the comfort of your bed. At these destinations, snowmobiles and husky sledding are just some of the exhilarating activities on offer.
